Helping Victims of Trafficking
If your MUN club or conference is interested in supporting a fundraising campaign to help victims of human trafficking, consider starting a Blue Heart campaign. The Blue Heart is the official logo for this campaign, with the blue representing both the United Nations as well as the sadness of trafficked victims. This is becoming the internationally recognized symbol of the anti-trafficking movement.
Raising money for the UN Voluntary Trust Fund allows your donations and fundraising monies to be used directly to support traffcking victims, through early intervention and prevention, support for victims, and money to pursue prosecution of traffickers. The Trsut Fund funds projects around the world to assist front line workers who combat trafficking every day. You can find more about the Blue Heart on their website.
Your MUN Club can run a Blue Heart campaign in the following ways:
- Debate one of the many topics and mandates that educate on human trafficking. UNODC resources can be found here.
- At your conference, set up donation boxes or envelopes or sell merchandise whose proceeds go to the Trust Fund
- Undertake a longer awareness-raising campaign with local schools or in your conference network. Raise money through bake sales, flower or candygrams, jumble/car boot sales, cashing in recyclable materials, or approach local business for donations.
With your help, we can give back to victims what human traffickers have stolen from them: DIGNITY!
Where does your money go?
The UN Voluntary Trust Fund for Victims of Trafficking in Persons is managed by the UN Office on Drugs and Crime. All UNODC staff working as part of the Trust Fund Secretariat are paid by UNODC, thus allowing the Trust Fund to direct most of its funds to specialised NGOs and to use only 10% of funds as direct operational costs.
