Thirst Project + MUN Impact

MUN Impact is honored to partner with Thirst Project, the largest youth-driven NGO supporting work to end the global water crisis, one country at a time. Thirst Project has been actively engaged in speaking to MUN delegates and working to partner with motivated students to support their mission of bringing fresh water to the country of eSwatini, and raising awareness around the global water crisis and SDG 6.

PROBLEM

This month, on March 22nd, the world will come together to celebrate world water day. For 24 hours, the global community will highlight the importance of clean water and sanitation for individuals and communities. SDG 6, Clean Water and Sanitation for all, is a HUGE goal and we still have so much work left in order to reach this goal. Right now, over 600 million people still lack access to basic, safe, clean drinking water around the world. Women and children walk, on average, about 6km each day to fetch water for their families. The water they collect is often contaminated with parasites and bacteria that can lead to waterborne diseases. Waterborne disease kills more children every year than AIDS and Malaria combined. The global water crisis is one of the biggest issues we face today, and it’s time for us to do something about it.

SOLUTION

MUN Impact has partnered up with Thirst Project to highlight SDG 6 for World Water Day this year. Thirst Project is the world’s largest youth water organization. They build freshwater wells in developing countries by educating students about the water crisis, and challenging young people to take action. In TEN years, student leaders have taken action in amazing ways, giving clean water to nearly 400,000 people in 13 different countries.

CALL TO ACTION

As a Model UN Student, you can take action to help give people clean water. This World Water Day, plan a WALK FOR WATER in your local community, challenging individuals to walk a certain distance to highlight the problem that millions of women and children face daily when they walk to fetch water. If you’re feeling up to it, have people walk close to 6km, and challenge individuals to carry full containers of water. Use this walk for water as an awareness opportunity in your community to highlight SDG 6. You can even fundraise as a part of this walk, and any money you raise, 100% goes directly towards building water projects.
